Red Chile Gravy
This traditional Red Chile Sauce recipe can be used for smothered burritos, enchiladas, and more. However, it can also be used as a spicy alternative to your usual gravy. So, whip up a batch, serve it with your family’s holiday meal, and enjoy a little extra heat and flavor this holiday season.

  1. In a medium saucepan or skillet, melt shortening or warm the olive oil over low to medium heat.
  2. Whisk in the flour and cook until a light brown (approximately 4 minutes) making a roux as a base for the Red Chile Sauce.
  3. Once the roux has turned a golden brown, over medium heat, whisk in the Red Chile Powder.
  4. When the roux and chile powder have been blended completely, add water and cook to desired consistency.
  5. Add in salt, pepper, cumin, garlic salt, whisk, and serve.
